In 2017, Stanford University developed an artificial intelligence that would be able to detect someone’s sexual orientation. The algorithm had created physiognomist biases when training its data.

On October 25, 2018, the painting Portrait d’Edmond de Belamy sold at auction for over $430 million. This was a world first; the work is entirely generated by a GAN. Similarly, in March 2023 artist Boris Eldagsen won the Sony World Photography Awards with his photograph Pseudomnesia: The Electrician. The artist refused the prize after revealing the deception.

In 2020, on Christmas Day, a video was released featuring the Queen of England giving her famous annual speech. In it, she tackles controversial subjects not usually discussed by royalty. The video was a deepfake, intended to show just how dangerous this technology can be.
